“Some days are just bad days, that’s all. You have to experience sadness to know happiness, and I remind myself that not every day is going to be a good day, that’s just the way it is!” — Dita Von Teese.
Feeling down in life sometimes is an unavoidable experience. Everybody in their life has to confront the feeling one time or another. But if you remember some points when you’re feeling down, those might help you to uplift your soul in the hard time.
In this blog, I am going to discuss about some important things you must remember when you are feeling down.
Let’s dive in.
Here are the 5 things to remember when you’re feeling down –
1. It’s Okay to Feel This Way
You know, feeling low mentally sometimes is an absolutely normal thing. Feeling low is a normal response for the overwhelming and unexpected stuffs that life throws at us.
Sometimes you feel very energized and productive due to happy mood, but some other day you don’t. Which is also normal.
And you must remember this when you’re feeling down. You can practice self-compassion by being with yourself to remind that it’s okay to feel this way.
Or you can talk to trusted friends or family members about your feelings. So that you don’t feel lonely.
You know, there’s the idea out there that we should always be positive and do some productive stuff all the time. Which simply isn’t possible. Our emotional state changes from time to time.
Like every human being, we must accept that fact and embrace both states as a natural process.
2. Focus on What You Can Control
We should not be thinking about the things we can’t control. That only gives us headache or anxiety. Because the number of uncontrollable things are too much.
Some of them are external events, people’s actions and so on. But how you react to them is something you can control. When you focus on the things you can control, it actually helps you to take any effective decision easily.
Also, if you keep thinking about stuffs which are out of your reach, it will affect your emotional health very much. That is why we must shift our minds to the things which are in our hands.
This will also help to maintain our peace of mind. Your actions will be more positive and help you to become optimistic.
3. Give Yourself Time to heal
Giving yourself time to heal is one of the important things to remember to do when you are having a hard time. Other necessary things you need to know and believe that healing is a slow process and needs time.
For instance, if you are having any physical injury, as in, broke your leg, it will take weeks to recover. Right? And no matter what you do, you have to give yourself that time to heal.
Similarly, in emotional healing, you also must give the needed time. But the fact is, we are not ready to give that time. We want the mental healing to complete as fast as possible, which is not going to happen.
It’s normal to feel like you’re improving one day and then, the next day you’re struggling. Just don’t think much about the process.
Only make sure that you keep moving. Eventually you will be healed.
4. You Have Overcome Challenges Before
If you are having some tough phase lately, always remember your past achievements of tackling things smartly.
Though the intensity of all incidents is different and the level of grief, anxiety, concern is definitely not the same, but we must not let ourselves down by thinking about the bad things going on in our life.
Instead recall the past ways of overcoming tough situations and take inspiration from those. You’ll see that you feel motivated.
You can take some advice from the people you know and trust. So, they can understand your situation properly and give advice accordingly.
5. You Are Not Alone
If you are facing any trouble in your life, whether in your academics, professional or personal life, don’t think that only you are getting all problems alone.
Because you are not. Think about the people around you, your friends, family members, colleagues and more. Remember that there are people who care for you, supports you.
You can talk to them when you’re having a tough time, discuss with them how can you handle the disturbances. Those conversations will give you strength to manage the heaviness and make you feel connected.
Also, you can get ideas to cope up with the issues you’re facing. Keep going, definitely you’ll see that you’re not alone.
